What’s It About?
Neither Giles, an investment manager, nor Laurie, his client, had a clue what lay ahead for them in the next three years.
As the plan of a golden elite uncoiled, it stripped 80% of the United States population of their way of life and locked most of them outside a dozen walled enclaves to survive as best they could in the shambles. First Laurie and later Giles would be out there among them, cut off from buying necessities by the collapse of everything we take for granted. Well-stocked grocery stores. Stable currency. Reliable information. Government services.
Meanwhile, back in the Seattle enclave, the golden plan had flaws. Insiders couldn’t get what they needed either. The neighbor ethic among folks on the outside would be tested, but so would the individualistic ways of the rich and powerful inside the walls.
Giles soon found that he would have to choose between his privileged insider status and his self-respect. Making more and more risky decisions, he and Laurie embarked on a roadtrip to obtain essential equipment: a team of work horses.
